Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
The short version
Swarmgrid is a game that runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no sign-in and no server that knows who you are. Your settings, saves, run history and unlocks are written to your own browser's storage on your own device, and they are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. We could not read your save if we wanted to.
Apart from a problem report you choose to send from the contact page, the only personal data that reaches us at all is what any web server unavoidably sees when your browser asks it for a file.
Who we are
Binary Business, CVR 38836234, Denmark, is the controller of your personal data.
Questions, or to exercise any right in this policy: [email protected].
What stays on your device
The game uses your browser's localStorage for everything it
remembers: your settings and key bindings, completed runs and their scores,
unlocks, and the state of a run in progress. This never leaves your browser. It
is not backed up by us, it is not synchronised between your devices, and it is
not part of any server backup.
Because it is ordinary browser storage, you can delete it and so can your browser. Clearing site data, browsing in a private window, uninstalling the installed app, or a browser reclaiming space on a full device will remove your progress permanently. There is no recovery, because there is no copy. We would rather say that plainly than imply your progress is safer than it is.
What the server sees
When your browser requests the page, the game's files, or a font, our host and our network provider record that request. Between them that means your IP address, the path requested, the time, the response status and your browser's user-agent string.
We use those logs only to keep the site available and to diagnose faults and abuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a working, secure service. We do not build profiles from them, we do not combine them with anything else, and there is nothing else to combine them with.
Problem reports
The contact page has a Report a problem control. It shows you the exact report
before anything leaves, and only Send delivers it; nothing is ever sent on its
own. A report goes to Binary Business's report service through this site's own
address, /api/error-reports.
A report holds an error code, where in the contact page's own script a problem happened, which build of Swarmgrid you have, your browser's major version and random identifiers that let you delete it, plus a note and an email address only if you type them. It never holds your saves, progress, settings or page content. Your progress still never leaves your browser.
Binary Business keeps the technical data for 14 days (up to 28 days including backups), and a note or email address for 7 days (up to 21 days including backups). Only the people we authorize to fix faults can read a report. After sending, your browser keeps a receipt for up to 28 days: Delete this report, beside it, deletes the report, and Forget this receipt removes only the receipt, after which the report simply expires. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in finding and fixing the faults you ask us to look at.
What we do not do
- No accounts, sign-in or passwords, and no email address unless you type one into a problem report.
- No analytics service of any kind, first- or third-party.
- No advertising, and no advertising or tracking cookies. The game sets no cookies at all.
- No payment processing. The game is free and there is nothing to buy.
- No sale or sharing of personal data. There is nothing to sell.
- No third-party fonts, scripts or content delivery networks — the game makes no requests to anyone but its own origin, which is why its content-security policy can forbid them outright.
Who processes data for us
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hetzner Online GmbH | Hosts the site and its report service | Request logs, including IP address, and the problem reports you send | Germany |
| Cloudflare | DNS and network layer in front of the host | Request logs, including IP address, and problem reports on their way to the host | EU/US |
That is the complete list. No other company receives anything, because the game contacts no other company.
How long we keep it
Request logs are retained for a short operational period and then discarded. Data held on your own device is kept until you or your browser removes it, and is entirely under your control.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask for access to, correction of, or erasure of personal data we hold about you, object to our processing of it, and request that we restrict it. In practice the only such data is a request log entry that is identifiable by IP address, and any problem report you chose to send, so an access or erasure request needs to reach us quickly enough that the data still exists, and needs to tell us the address and approximate time, or the receipt of the report. A report you sent can also be deleted at once from the contact page, with Delete this report beside its receipt.
Write to [email protected]. If you believe we have handled your data improperly you may complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet).
Children
The game is suitable for general audiences, and collects nothing from anyone who does not choose to send a problem report. We do not knowingly process personal data from children; a problem report asks for no name or age, and its note and email address are optional.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The site is a static, versioned artefact, so a previous version of this page is whatever the previous release served.
